Why do we worship?

"obviously we love singing old worship songs!"
Old Hymnal songs
Vandy and I love singing hymnal songs.
Of course, I grew up in a church where these classics were introduced and has always sung at worship services. I was even become part of a choir (alto voice), and we did lots of cantatas on every occasions. Vandy on the other hand was also exposed on hymnals, since he used to study in the bible school in the Philippines.

While we love singing hymnal worships, we also enjoy singing new ones like of Hillsongs, Don Moen's and the like.. when we were serving in Kratie province (18 years ago!). Vandy only taught and sang mostly hymnals (translated in Khmer) to the local congregation. So, our youth were definitely well versed on these old hymnal songs.
Though, I am open learning new worship songs and enjoy soaking/injecting them in my quiet time, my husband still prefers playing and singing the classics.

Last Sunday, pastor Greg shared an illustration about Vandy's preference of worship songs.
Background was I believe they had a meeting with one of our worship leaders Paghna last time (who's by the way will be living outside the men's dorm from now on, since he could already be independent (he is now a freelance architect!hurray!) and now willing to give his space for a newcomer).
My husband shared to the team that he actually doesn't like singing new worship songs. Although he prefers singing old hymns, he pointed out that "It's NOT about my personal preferences or the song choices that I come to church, but it's all about GOD" - whether it's a hymn or new worship songs
Vandy expressed that everyone is welcome to worship and sing any songs, but the most important agenda is to encounter God in a sincere and personal way allowing Him to move and work in our midst as we worship.

Worship asserts God's presence in our lives, overcoming the false feeling of helplessness. It actually encourages submission of our worries, concerns, goals, even dreams, and priorities to God.
We worship to submit to the highest power, that is God. We must pay a price for sincere worship. That price is referred to as the self-sacrifice in Romans 12:1 "Therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your spiritual worship."

As we humble ourselves before God in worship, we acknowledge and honor his supremacy, confessing his righteousness.

I used to lead at English worship service @ PPC (women band).
