David’s big brother
David’s been wanting to have siblings.
We told him to pray 🙏 and ask God for His will. We actually encourage him to keep his hope open that if ever God might send him siblings that might be coming from other mommy’s tummy or other family.
Honestly, Vandy and I are definitely open for “adoption”. I know it’s a big move to take, but we know God has something to do with this. Making a difference to the lives of people around us would mean loving them unconditionally like how God is loving us.
What makes it even more fulfilling is to open our home for them and make them part of our own family.
Our ministry right now is directing much not only in the church but mostly to our dormitories - we are giving our time, love, and even our resources to them because we know they need a family here in the city. We are more than willing to be their spiritual parents.
And it so happened that one of our nephews (Vandy's side of the family) need a father figure. Pich is a growing teenager. His father left him to my sister in-law Kunthea when he was still young (at 5years old!). He is a very timid, introvert lad (like Vandy growing up). Pich is remarkably smart too. He always placed topnotcher at his public school in Kampong Cham. He is very obedient and gentle to his mother. Him and David really get along together, both of them like football!
A few months ago, we decided to let my sister-in-law Kunthea and her teenage son Pich to come and live with us here in Phnom Penh. Kunthea is a hard-working single mom. Raising him alone and taking care of other things must have taken a toll on her.
For a time, she has had some physical/mental breakdowns that we need to intervene.
Kunthea trusts and relies to her big brother Vandy a lot. Growing up, Vandy was the one who sent her to school until she graduated university. She has great talents and potentials. She was once a bank manager for a local bank in the province. She loves cooking and being in the kitchen satisfies her a lot! She's a speed learner and is like a human machine - she works nonstop!
It's been years that we have been praying for Vandy's whole family to be able to receive Christ as their Savior. And we know this could be it. Having both of them (mother and son) live with us here in the city would be a wonderful opportunity to share the gospel with them.
It has just been a few months and we are seeing progress and fruits.
Vandy is very intentional to let them feel and see that we love them. Not only in words but most importantly in action.
We desire that soon they will genuinely accept Christ as their Lord and that the activities we are doing at home (like praying every meal, reading the bible, bible studies, going to church) will not just be a good routine but would be a lifestyle for them to enjoy and experience Christ in their lives. We continue to pray - they will know we have a spiritual Father and a defender God. That our God desires for us to experience joy and freedom.
💇♂️ Haircut
Last Sunday, it was a bit emotional when Kunthea shared - it was the first time her son Pich experienced to be brought to the barbers to cut his hair, because he has never experienced his real father do this for him. He was so happy that his (Ku/Ohm) uncle Vandy had the time and was willing to drive for him and stayed with him all throughout the hair cut session.
It was just a small gesture but became very important for them.
