Prayer for the bereaved families (Jeju plane crash in South Korea)

The heartbreaking news of the Jeju airplane crash in South Korea has left many grieving, not only in the nation itself but across the world. Last night, as my family gathered for our evening prayers, we lifted up South Korea and especially the bereaved families to the Lord. This tragedy is a stark reminder of the fragility of life and the enduring need for faith, even in the midst of sorrow.

South Korea is a nation known for its spiritual fervor, being home to some of the largest Christian congregations and a legacy of prayerful intercession. Perhaps this moment, though devastating, is also an opportunity for spiritual revival—a call for the church to unite in prayer and faith.

Today, I write not only with a heavy heart but with a firm trust in God’s sovereignty. I also want to honor my dear friend Hyangsuk, a Korean missionary here in Cambodia, who is grieving deeply for her homeland. We love her dearly, and we stand with her in prayer for healing, comfort, and hope for the people of South Korea.

Psalm 46:1 Reflection: "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble."

In the aftermath of the tragic airplane crash in South Korea, Psalm 46:1 offers an anchor for our faith and a source of hope for those mourning. This verse calls us to rest in the unchanging nature of God, even amidst heartbreaking circumstances. Below are five reflections on this truth, each tied to the news and a prayer for those affected.

Reflection 1: God Is Our Refuge in Storms of Life

The devastation of the crash reminds us that life’s storms can strike without warning, leaving us vulnerable and shaken. Yet, God promises to be a refuge—a shelter that we can run to for safety. Lord, we ask You to be a refuge for the families mourning this tragedy. Wrap them in Your love and provide them with peace that surpasses all understanding. May they find rest in Your presence.

Moments of deep grief can leave us feeling weak and powerless, but God's strength sustains us when we cannot carry on. As South Korea mourns, this verse reassures us that God's strength is made perfect in human weakness. He empowers us to face each day, even in sorrow.

Father, strengthen those who are brokenhearted and weary. Be their source of endurance and courage as they navigate through this time of unimaginable loss. Let Your power be their sustaining grace.

Reflection 3: God’s Help is Ever-Present

The phrase “ever-present” reminds us that God is not distant in our times of need. He is there, fully aware of every tear shed and every heartache felt. His presence is constant, especially in times of great trouble like this. For the Korean people, this truth is a beacon of hope—that they are never alone.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for being an ever-present help in trouble. May those grieving in South Korea feel Your nearness and take comfort in Your unwavering presence. Guide them through their pain and remind them of Your closeness.

Reflection 4: God’s Refuge Extends Through His People

God often works through His people to be a tangible expression of His refuge and strength. South Korea’s spiritual legacy as a nation of intercessors is a testament to this truth. As believers worldwide, including us here in Cambodia, pray and stand in solidarity, we embody God’s refuge for the grieving.

Prayer:
Lord, use Your people to bring comfort to the bereaved. Unite us in prayer and compassion, and may the Korean church rise as a light of hope and faith during this time. Let the world see Your love through their response.

Reflection 5: God’s Sovereignty Amidst Tragedy

Even in times of great loss, God remains sovereign. Though the reasons for tragedies may be hidden from us, we trust in His ultimate plan. This trust anchors us, reminding us that God can bring beauty from ashes and purpose from pain.

Prayer:
Lord, we trust in Your sovereignty even when the path is dark. Help the grieving families to lean on You and believe that You will bring healing and purpose to their pain. Let this tragedy draw people closer to Your heart.

This tragedy calls us to reflect deeply on our faith, trusting in God’s sovereignty even when faced with heartbreak. To my friend Hyangsuk, and to all our Korean brothers and sisters, we grieve with you, and we are lifting you up in prayer. As Christians, may we hold fast to the promises of God, offering love, prayer, and support to those in need.

Let this moment remind us of the power of unity in the Body of Christ and the enduring hope we have in Jesus, our Savior.

Last week, I blogged about a Filipino dish 👉 "Tinolang Manok" - my comfort food.  Today, I also would like to feature a special Khmer noodle that I have loved eating ever since I stepped my foot in Cambodia. Vandy and I have already tried several versions of this noodle dish. Each place/province or homes have their own take on making it. The ingredients and technique vary from household for sure. My husband is praying to win another soul for Christ in our neighborhood. We are grateful to be living in a "Borey" (community in Khmer) where there is a Park. We love walking and exercising at our park. Vandy would be exercising in the early morning there, he would wait for the sun (natural Vitamin D!). Twelve years ago, God gifted us with a beautiful baby boy David. Last Saturday (June 7th), he’s officially 12.  Almost a teenager. It feels surreal. Do you have a missionary calling?

I would be trekking and ministering around to the tribal community with my mission classmates at (ACM) Asian Center for Missions .  These mission travels have given me much clarity about God's calling for me to become a missionary.  I vividly remembered; my last tribal mission was in Davao - the Matigsalug tribe. It was an extra wonderful experience that even sealed my faith journey. God has impressed me that His name will be exalted among the nations! (and I should look for ways to serve and be a part of it!). We trekked for the whole day to the mountains and streams to reach a local community. It was exhausting but truly worth it trek!
