Praying for North Carolina: Aftermath Storm Helene

When I was younger, growing up in the Philippines, I remember the typhoons and floods that would hit our country. The wind would howl through the streets, and the rain seemed like it would never stop. I remember the power going out for days, sometimes weeks, leaving us in darkness at night. There were times when we ran out of food, and finding clean drinking water became a challenge.

One vivid memory I have is sitting with my family, gathered in the small living room, with nothing but a candle to light the room. The floodwaters had reached our doorstep, and my parents were doing everything they could to make sure we had enough to eat. My mother cooked whatever we had left in our kitchen, and even though it wasn’t much, it brought us comfort. We prayed together as a family, asking God for protection and provision. In those moments, despite the fear and uncertainty, we felt God’s presence more than ever.

That experience, while difficult, taught me the importance of faith in the face of adversity. I learned to trust that God would provide for our needs, even when things looked bleak. Looking back now, I can see how God’s hand was with us, guiding us through those challenging times.

Now, living in Cambodia, I’ve also seen my fair share of difficulties, but nothing quite prepares the heart for the devastating news of a natural disaster. Recently, there was news about the aftermath of Storm Helene in North Carolina 👉Hurricane Helene aftermath. We’ve been praying every night for the lives, homes, and rehabilitation of those affected. Even though we’re thousands of miles away, the pain and loss felt by the community are very close to our hearts, especially since dear friends of ours, Bernie and Nan Dykhouse, live in that very area.

We are grateful to God that our missionary friends Bernie and Nan are safe, but their community is still struggling. Many are without power, food, and even clean drinking water. It’s hard to imagine what it must feel like to live in such chaos. Let’s continue to pray and support our brothers and sisters in North Carolina. Let’s trust that God is working even in the midst of this trial and that His love will shine through the darkness.

Praying fervently,

the Hourngs in Cambodia
