Exploring Phnom Penh City

Image
Phnom Penh, the bustling capital of Cambodia, is more than just the heart of the nation—it’s also home to my family and the place where we serve in ministry. As a lecturer at a university in the city and alongside my Khmer husband, we disciple young couples, university students, and young professionals at Phnom Penh Church (PPC). Over the years, we've grown to love this city for its rich culture and vibrant history and the opportunities it offers to share the gospel and nurture new believers. Exploring Phnom Penh: A Journey Through History, Ministry, and Mission Opportunities In this blog, I want to invite you to journey through Phnom Penh with me, not just as a Filipino married to a Khmer pastor, but as someone with a heart for ministry. Whether you're a family, a couple, or a single person with a passion for missions, Phnom Penh has so much to offer. Let's dive into some of the city’s most notable tourist spots, affordable accommodations, and reflections from Scripture to...

How Do We Trust God’s Promises in the Mission Field?

Image
Faith and Joy in the Mission Field There’s something uniquely beautiful about stepping into the unknown, trusting God’s promises, and watching Him work in ways we could never imagine. As a pastor’s wife, I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside my husband, Vandy, in ministry—from the remote mission fields of Kratie province to the bustling city of Phnom Penh. Through it all, one truth has remained constant:  God is faithful, and His promises never fail.  Today, I want to encourage you with a message in  Isaiah 58:11 : “The Lord will guide you always; He will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.” This verse has been our anchor in ministry, especially during seasons of uncertainty, limited resources, and overwhelming challenges. Whether you’re feeling called to missions, discipling young people, or simply sharing the gospel in your neighborhood, I want to r...

Up Close: Who we are? After knowing a little bit of our small family, now I would like to share about God's work through our ministries here in Cambodia. I also would like to sincerely thank you for considerably covering us with your prayers and for always looking after us.  These means a lot. You are a channel of blessing! Background: When Vandy's teaching/leadership transition in the bible school has ended, it was clear to my husband that God is calling us to plant a church again - this time in the city. We just don't know where and when could we start. All we know we should be ready to obey.  As a young couple, we were also anticipating that our own family will grow and that we might have a baby eventually. God has been faithful. We know He is providing us financially through our work. I was offer a fulltime teaching job in a university while Vandy facilitated some translating jobs.  It was also that time KCC - Khmer Community Church/Kampuchea Christian Communit...

Do you have a missionary calling?

Image
Phnom Penh City at night (view from the Ferry ride) My missionary calling started some decades back in my country (the Philippines). I would be trekking and ministering around to the tribal community with my mission classmates at (ACM) Asian Center for Missions .  These mission travels have given me much clarity about God's calling for me to become a missionary.  I vividly remembered; my last tribal mission was in Davao - the Matigsalug tribe. It was an extra wonderful experience that even sealed my faith journey. God has impressed me that His name will be exalted among the nations! (and I should look for ways to serve and be a part of it!). We trekked for the whole day to the mountains and streams to reach a local community. It was exhausting but truly worth it trek! I was glad I was able to write this post in 2007 👉  Missions to Matigsalug Tribe .  Months after that tribal trip, I began my mission journey here in Cambodia. As a single missionary, I joyfully took t...

Living Out God’s Mission

Last week was a tender one for our church. One of our faithful church members, Thek, lost her mother. As a church, we prayed for her and her family and extended our sincere help to her family at this trying moment. Though we can't travel to hug her personally, we hope and pray that she's being comforted by our Lord. with her mom - last year's visit in Phnom Penh for medical check up Thek’s story is deeply personal to us. She is one of the many students who have been part of our dorm ministry a place where young women from the provinces come to Phnom Penh to study and are given a safe, loving environment to live and grow. But Thek's story stood out not just because of where she came from, but because of what God has done in her life. Thek is from Ratanakiri , one of Cambodia's most remote provinces. It takes about twelve hours to reach the capital, and even longer to get to her actual village, which is tucked away in the mountains and forests of the region. She come...
