My journey as a University Lecturer

Image
😅😁😍 Still on a major high from the recently concluded graduation event a few days ago. Our university is all over the place, and we became the talk of the town in a wonderful way - just because the Prime Minister was our VIP guest. He brought atleast his 92 entourage consists of his cabinets and ministers plus platoon of securities.  That event was  definitely a big breakthrough for Limkokwing University. It's really a privilege to be working for this global organization. I can't thank God enough! I used to doubt on my capacity to teach, because I know my limitations.  Back in the Philippines, to be a qualified teacher, one should finish a teaching course and should have a license. And if there's a desire to teach on higher levels like college or in the university, one should have a master's degree. I didn't have all of those. I took up bachelor's in science in Tourism, because I thought I would be working in the airline industry. Praise God for another oppor...

How Do You Refuel with Joy?

Image
The university semester is ending soon, and we have had lots of activities in and out of our campus. Few weeks ago, we brought our students on our university’s annual study trip to Siem Reap. Every year, this trip feels like both a mountain climb and a mountain top. It is exhausting, exhilarating, and always filled with surprises. It is also one of those moments that stretches not just the students, but us lecturers as well. This year’s program was different from the past. We designed it with more intention, adding activities that went beyond the tourist attractions. Of course, we still visited the famous Angkor Wat, but we wanted the trip to be more than sightseeing. We wanted it to be an opportunity for students to see life with fresh eyes, to witness realities outside the walls of their classrooms, and to experience moments that would open their hearts to the needs of others.  Siemreap 2025 - Photos credit to Limkokwing University Discovering Life Beyond the City One of the hi...

Treasures that last forever

Image
Our lives can be made more comfortable by material belongings, such as the newest phones, larger homes, or cars. It's simple to assume that possessing more will also increase our happiness. However, the reality is that nothing we may purchase will stay forever. There is a time limit on everything we gather on this planet. Houses collapse, cars break down, and new phones age rapidly. We truly have no control over the affairs of this world in the long term. When Jesus invites us to focus on storing treasures in heaven, where things do not fade or vanish, He is essentially inviting us to a different way of living. He calls us to concentrate on heavenly things that will endure forever rather than accumulating material possessions.  Everything we own was actually given to us by God's grace, we are just the managers of these.  ** The passage advises not to store treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy and thieves steal, but in heaven, where treasures are safe and secure. ...

How do we seek God's wisdom?

Image
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given to him.” — James 1:5  Here in Cambodia, we eat this edible plant/flower on salads! There is something incredibly reassuring about this verse.  It reminds us that God’s wisdom is always available to us, and He is generous in providing it. Unlike human wisdom, which often comes from personal experiences or acquired knowledge, godly wisdom is pure, peaceable, and ultimately aligned with His divine purpose. In today’s world, we have endless access to information at our fingertips. A quick search online can answer almost any question, but wisdom—true, godly wisdom—is not found in mere facts or opinions. It comes from an intimate relationship with God, from seeking His guidance in our daily decisions, and from trusting Him even when His answers require patience, faith, and surrender. Reflecting on this, I remember how my faith was tested during the COVID-19 pandemic. ...

Happy World Teachers' Day!

Image
Reflecting on Psalm 1:3 for World Teachers' Day 😍 As a pastor's wife in Cambodia and university lecturer teaching Communication Skills to Cambodian youth, I often find myself reflecting on the dual roles God has called me to. Both of these roles—pastor’s wife and teacher—are about nurturing, guiding, and sowing seeds that can grow into something beautiful. With World Teachers' Day approaching, I’ve been thinking about Psalm 1:3, which says, "He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers." This verse speaks to me as both a wife and a teacher, and I believe it holds a beautiful truth for all of us in the teaching profession. Psalm 1:3 gives us a picture of a strong, healthy tree, deeply rooted by streams of water. It bears fruit at the right time and never withers. In the same way, as teachers, we are called to be like that tree—nurturing our students with wisdom and knowledg...

How to find JOY in Serving?

Image
It's been more than a decade since we have started serving the body of Christ here in Phnom Penh. God has been gracious in directing us to minister to His people.  It's all by His amazing grace that we could do it. He is our greatest Rock and Provider. Off to church! We need to always leave earlier, since we drive at least 40 minutes away to PPC (we are living in the outskirt of Phnom Penh - closer to the airport) As a pastor's wife serving alongside my Khmer husband, I've come to understand the profound joy and fulfillment that comes from serving others without expecting anything in return. This selfless giving is not only a beautiful act of kindness but also a form of worship to God. Along the way, God has impressed to me some bible verses to reflect and pray upon. It has assured us many times, because we also need encouragement (we also feel tired, weariness and even being burned out sometimes). Personally, sometimes I would ask myself is it really worth to serve? ou...
